Ask about semaglutide care online
What needs a closer look?
A clear explanation leaves room for questions. If a claim is hard to check, pause and ask for the detail behind it.
Claims that deserve a pause
Food and Drug Administration is written as FDA for short; the agency reviews medicines in the U.S.
FDA said at the September 26, 2026 check that a compounded medicine cannot truthfully be called FDA-approved or a generic of an approved drug.
Compounded means a pharmacist or doctor makes the medicine to order. Ask why that preparation is being offered for your medical need.
Under federal law checked September 26, 2026, a prescription medicine cannot be supplied without a valid medicine order from a prescriber.
FDA urges avoiding semaglutide sold for people with a research label: its quality is not known, and using it may cause harm.
FDA had reported labels naming a pharmacy that did not exist or had never made the product, as checked September 26, 2026.
Ask for the real pharmacy name and use the state’s record to check it.
Stomach problems are part of the conversation
In semaglutide (Wegovy) injection studies, common unwanted effects included feeling sick to the stomach, loose stools, vomiting, and trouble passing stools.
The label reports kidney injury after losing too much fluid through vomiting or loose stools.
It advises against use in severe gastroparesis, which means the stomach empties very slowly.
Ask what symptoms need a prompt call, who answers it, and what care is available if you cannot keep fluids down.
Bring these label points into the visit
The thyroid is a small organ in your neck.
The semaglutide label’s boxed warning, its strongest alert, concerns thyroid tumours seen in rats and mice; whether they occur in humans is unknown.
The label rules out semaglutide if the patient or anyone in their family has had medullary thyroid cancer, which is rare.
It also rules out semaglutide for people with MEN 2, the name of a rare illness that can pass from parent to child.
Ask the prescriber to help check medical records if you cannot name a family illness. For an unfamiliar diagnosis, ask what illness it describes and whether it appears in your history.
The label also rules out use for anyone who has had a serious allergic reaction to semaglutide or another ingredient in the medicine.
The label lists belly pain that lasts or is severe, with possible spread to the back, as a warning sign of pancreatitis.
Pancreatitis means swelling and irritation of the pancreas, an organ in the belly.
Discuss family history, pregnancy plans, and surgery plans before a treatment decision. Ask how to get help if symptoms arise.
When help cannot wait
MedlinePlus says to call 911 or get emergency care for a severe allergic reaction. Trouble breathing and a swollen tongue are examples of its severe signs.
The U.S. National Library of Medicine provides the health information service MedlinePlus.
FDA’s MedWatch programme lets patients report a suspected problem with a medicine.
Keep the care plan and the medicine label available when explaining a problem.
